Our History

Newman Women’s Shelter began in 1999, when a small group of local women and community members came together to address family and domestic violence and the need for a safe place for women and children.
In 2001, the Shelter was officially incorporated. By 2004, it moved into a purpose-built centre, accessible 24/7, providing safety, support, and hope to women and children across Newman and surrounding communities.
For over 20 years, NWS has continued to grow, guided by the needs of the community and a commitment to culturally safe and holistic support.
