Trailblazer Michelle Cowan to inspire Newman community at International Women’s Day 2026
Newman Women’s Shelter (NWS), in collaboration with the Shire of East Pilbara, is proud to welcome Michelle Cowan as the keynote speaker for the 2026 International Women’s Day Breakfast. The event will take place on 9 March 2026, from 8:00 am to 9:30 am at Newman Town Square.
Michelle Cowan is widely recognised as a trailblazer in Australian football and a passionate advocate for women breaking barriers in sport and leadership. She made history as one of the first female coaches in the WAFL, challenging traditional norms and opening doors for women in elite football coaching roles.
Her dedication to the game and to advancing opportunities for women has earned her national recognition, including being named Football Woman of the Year for her significant contribution to the sport.
Today, Cowan is also a powerful and inspiring speaker, encouraging women to believe in their abilities, challenge the status quo, and pursue their goals with confidence. Her message of resilience, leadership, and self‑belief aligns strongly with the spirit of International Women’s Day.
This year’s theme, “Balancing the Scales,” celebrates equality and recognises the incredible contributions women make in workplaces, families, and communities.
The event will feature free breakfast boxes, a keynote address, and a creation station, bringing the community together to celebrate and support women across the region.
